WATTLESEED HEALING CENTRE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM

Wattleseed Healing Centre is proud to be the only professional private health practice in the Parramatta area offering a community outreach program in the form of social skills development for pre-school aged children.

The Playing and Learning to Socialise (PALS) program, is a social skills program developed for children aged 3-6 years exhibiting acting out or withdrawn behaviours.  The program aims to teach children over ten, 30 min sessions, skills associated with making friends and socializing appropriately.  These skills include

  • Saying hello
  • Taking turns at play
  • Developing empathy
  • Dealing with angry feelings
  • Calming down and speaking up

Inclusions in the program include delivery of the PALS program weekly, to a group of 6-10 children, identified by the childcare centre to be displaying acting out or withdrawn behaviours.   The program will be delivered by Intern-Psychologists, under the supervision of Emma Spencer, Clinical Psychologist. Following the delivery of the program, Wattleseed staff will remain on site for approximately half an hour per week, to observe the children’s behaviours and provide support and consultation to the centre staff.

Each week, parent and staff handouts will be provided, to discuss the skill learnt in the group and make suggestions on how to generalise this skill in the childcare setting and in the home.

Other services also offered include parent consultation and behavioural observation.

If you would like more information regarding this program, or would like to make an appointment for a representative from Wattleseed Healing Centre to visit your centre to discuss the program further, please contact Wattleseed Healing Centre on (02)8896-2152, or e-mail intern@wattleseedhealingcentre.com.au and place “PALS” in the subject line.
